Irish Green Building Council World Greenbuild Week: Hendrick Hotel LEED Gold Case Study, Presenter

Date/Time Date(s) – 22/09/2020

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Presenter: Muge Karasahin, Meehan Green

The Hendrick Smithfield is the first hotel in Ireland to achieve LEED Gold certification. Developed by the Dublin Loft Company in consultation with LEED consultants Meehan Green, the hotel was recognised for its innovative design which allows it to operate with low utility costs and provide guests with a high indoor air quality. This webinar will explore the green credentials that enabled the Hendrick Hotel to achieve it’s LEED Gold certification

The Hendrick has efficient plumbing fittings, fixtures, and equipment to reduce indoor water consumption. The building also harvests rainwater from the roof, terrace and the courtyard as grey water for flushing. Together with energy efficient mechanical design and equipment choices, LED lighting systems and PV panels on the roof, the building achieves a 35% energy cost saving. The Hendrick incorporated a waste storage and recyclable collection scheme to reduce the waste generated by guests and staff. The Hendrick also installed products and materials where life-cycle information is available.

World Green Building Week is an annual campaign to celebrate green buildings. In previous years the IGBC has organised tours of recently certified green buildings. This year, due to Covid-19 restriction we are organising a series of webinars.
